Traditionally for industry leaders, Ecovacs annually expands its model range and 2024 is no exception. In particular, the Chinese company has introduced two ‘Combo’ versions, including the Ecovacs Deebot X2 Combo and T30S Combo. As the name suggests, they offer expanded functionality, come with a new OMNI station and additional components.
Depending on the version, the additional kit may include a hand vacuum, extension stick and brushes, including the innovative Combo ZeroTangle technology – based model.
Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo X2 Combo is an expanded version of last year’s Deebot X2. Like the previous model, it has a square form factor, and its price ranges from $ 1,400 to $ 1,600.
The round T30S can be positioned as an update to last year’s Ecovacs DEEBOT T20 Omni.
The T30S offers Combo ($ 1,200 / £ 950, robot, base and hand vacuum) and Combo Complete ($ 1,300 / £ 1,020, robot, base, hand vacuum and stick vacuum).
The handheld vacuum weighs only 2.65 Lb / 1.2 kg and, of course, radically expands functionality.
Moreover, the company also offers an optional Power Brush Kit costing € 150 – € 200 with extension hose and Zero Tangle Power Brush. In fact, it turns the handheld vacuum of Combo version into a cordless vacuum of Combo Complete.
Combo version key features
As known, last year’s flagship Ecovacs Deebot X2 Pro offered two significant design changes, including placing the lidar in the body instead of the lid, and replacing the round shape with a square shape.
The first modification reduced the robot height from 103 to 95 mm, which expanded the range of areas available for cleaning. It’s no secret that cleaning floors in hard-to-reach places (under the bed, chair, nightstand, etc.) is one of the main bonuses of a robot vacuum. Unfortunately, its height limits cleaning under low-profile furniture. Therefore, reducing the height by even 1 cm while maintaining functionality is a very significant success for the developers.
The square form factor is traditionally used to improve cleaning the corners and edges, reducing the minimum gap between the wall and the ends of the brush/mop. New Deebot X2 Comby also uses square design.
Despite the lower price, T30S is significantly more powerful (11,000Pa vs 8,700Pa). High suction power is especially important for cleaning very dirty areas and long pile carpets. But the X2 Combo lifts its mops 15mm above the carpet surface vs 9mm for the T30S Combo. This aspect can be critical, for example, when cleaning a carpet with a pile of more than 10mm.
OZMO Turbo 2.0 mopping system of the X2 / T30S Combo users adjustable downward pressure of their rotating mopping pads. This feature is popular in the premium segment and provides a significant increase in performance when cleaning the tough stains.
In addition, the T30S Combo has an additional feature. The robot can swing one of its mops outward and away to cover a larger wiping area.
The swinging mop on the T30S is an advantage over the X2.
Combo robot vacuums
The features list includes:
– a built-in voice assistant (YIKO Voice Assistant 2.0);
– intelligent mopping – cleaning quality control and second pass if necessar;
– a mobile app to create cleaning schedules and set restricted areas;
– docking station – auto emptyimg onboard dustbin and clean mops with hot water and warm air.
As before, OMNI station provides auto cleaning the robot’s mop pads with 158°F hot water, their 2-hour hot air drying, and filling the on-board water tank. In addition, the new version supports the Dual Auto Empty feature (empties the dirt containers for the robot and the handheld vacuum) and has a dual charging system (simultaneous charging of both vacuums).
Considering the additional handheld vacuum, the design of the OMNI station has changed. New dock is almost 22″ wide and 20″ tall, and has stand for handheld vacuum.
Of course, the models are equipped with basically the same Ecovacs technologies, although some have different names.
For mapping, X2 uses 3D Mapping 2.0, a similar system in T30S is called AI TrueMapping 2.0. It creates a precise map for 1,100 Sqft / 100 m² in just 6 minutes.
Both robots have a dual-plate rotating OZMO Turbo 2.0 mopping system with unique chenille fabric mop. For reference, it’s the most popular upholstery fabric today. OZMO provides high-pressure scrubbing, effectively cleaning even the most stubborn stains.
Both robots support Auto-lift Mopping option, lifting the mop above the carpet when it’s detected using ultrasonic scanning. But T30S lift height is 0.35in/8.89mm, X2 can lift mop 0.6in / 15mm.
T30S vs X2 technologies
For precise obstacle avoidance X2 uses Al-powered ‘Artificial Intelligence and Visual Interpretation’ (AIVI 3D), which was first used in DEEBOT X1 OMNI. The T30S is equipped with TrueDetect 3D 3.0, which first was introduced in last year’s DEEBOT T20 OMNI.
The AIVI algorithm uses data from an upgraded RGBD sensor and in fact is an obstacle recognition ECOVACS’s software. In addition, the robot uses a dual-laser lidar, scanning which enables detection of objects at a distance of 10 m with a viewing angle of 210°. It recognizes up to 30 different types of obstacles, including furniture, cables and shoes. Moreover, the system performance is constantly improved by expanding the database that stores object images. But this technology requires good lighting conditions to capture clear images.
TrueDetect 3D uses the infrared sensors and ToF camera to create a 3D map.
This system works great even in darkness, providing sensitivity down to the millimeters.
New Dual ZeroTangle technology avoids entanglements of hair on the robot’s brushes. The V-shaped roller brush with 21° flat bristles and the built-in Dual Comb Teeth Arrays to guide hair into the suction port almost completely eliminated this problem.
T30S comes with such brushe. The handheld vacuum for X2 Combo comes with traditional brushes, but it’s compatible with the innovative Dual ZeroTangle version, which is sold separately.
The T30S has an extendable mop design, which the company calls TruEdge Adaptive Edge Mopping. This option together with precise control by Continuous Variable Mop Extender, and 3D Omni-Directional Perception Sensors reduces the minimum distance between the brushe edge and the walls to 1 mm.
Conclusions
T30S Combo is cheaper ($ 1,200 vs $ 1,400), more powerful (11,000Pa vs 8,700Pa), comes with the innovative ZeroTangle brush, has a longer runtime (290 min vs 210 min), shorter charge time (3 hours vs 6 hours), and swinging mop. Taking into account the approximate price of a handheld vacuum, its price is $ 1,000. But the X2 Combo’s ability to lift the mop up to 15mm could be a deciding factor for owners of long-pile carpets. In addition, it’s thinner (95 mm vs 104 mm), which expands the possibilities for cleaning under furniture with legs higher than 9.5 cm. Its square shape is more effective for cleaning corners, but the extendable mop of the round T30S also does the job effectively.
Except for the price, both models are superb. But the thinner X2 Combo with a mop lift of up to 15 mm seems more optimal for rooms with low-profile furniture and long-pile carpets. Otherwise, the cheaper and more powerful T30S Combo with ZeroTangle brush seems preferable.
