Jura Giga W10 vs X10 Professional coffee machines Review

Jura Professional coffee machines

Jura Professional coffee machines

Probably, most coffee lovers are familiar with the iconic Jura brand, which belongs to the Swiss Elektroapparate AG. This company has been successfully producing premium home appliances since 1931. Coffee machines became its main focus in the 90s. Today, Jura models are manufactured at the Eugster/Frismag company factories in Portugal and Switzerland, which is one of the world leaders in the production of automatic coffee machines. In fact, being an OEM supplier (original equipment manufacturer), Elektroapparate AG and Saeco produce most modern automatic coffee machines under various brands, including, for example, Bosch, Melitta and Nivona. For reference, among the industry leaders, only the Italian Delonghi mainly uses its own production facilities.

Today Jura offers compact Ena and full-size mid-range C, D, E, S, J, Z series. In addition, the company produces the Professional series, designed for use in offices, caterers, self-service zones and high-volume coffee shops. They have a significantly increased productivity, which can reach several hundred cups per day. Some Professional models have design features, including, for example:

– additional boiler, two coffee grinder and two coffee bean bins;

– increased capacity of the water container, coffee bean bins, coffee grounds and drip tray;

– possibility of connection to water supply;

– max simple interface with a large number of programs and user profiles.

Jura Professional series

Of course, they are a little more expensive than ‘home’ models. However, with the exception of increased capacity and connection to the water supply, some ‘home’ premium models also have two boilers or two coffee grinders. In fact, Professional Jura models can be positioned as more expensive universal premium coffee machines suitable for use anywhere.

Unlike its competitors, Jura uses a built-in non-removable screw brewing unit with a capacity of up to 16 grams of ground coffee per serving. The non-removable brewing unit is a significant bonus for intensive use of the coffee machine, because it does not require daily rinsing under running water. In fact, daily cleaning is replaced by periodic maintenance.

For several decades, Jura models have offered the highest technological level. In particular, the list of the latest innovations includes the Cold Extraction Process (cold brewing the black coffee) and reverse grinders (grinding adjustment at any time). In fact, before stopping, it makes a half turn back. As known, adjusting conventional coffee grinders is only possible when rotation due to the risk of damaging the millstones by unmilled grain fragments.

Professional line 2025:

– Giga W10, Giga X8 / X8c and Giga X3 / X3c;

– X10 / X10c and X4 / X4c;

– W8, W4, WE6 and WE8.

X10c is the latest model.

Jura X10

The letter ‘c’ in the article number means that it can be connected to a water supply.

Traditionally, Giga uses two flow-through thermal thermoblocks to speed up brewing and improve thermal stability. In addition, the Giga X8 and W10 have two grinders for simultaneous use of two coffee types. For example, it can use medium roast Arabica for black coffee, and dark roast Arabica or a blend with Robusta for milk-based programs.

Jura Giga W10

Jura Giga W10 is the most advanced model of the series. It uses 6.7-inch touchscreen display, two thermal blocks, two ceramic coffee grinders, two hoppers for beans of 650 grams each and a maximum number of programs.

Accordingly, a model with two grinders and two hoppers can simultaneously prepare two drinks from different varieties of coffee beans and with different grinds.

JURA Giga Two grindes

This option will be useful, for example, when preparing Cold Brew, which uses max coarse grind. For reference, Cold Extraction Process can be used both in black coffee programs and in the preparation of milk-based drinks. Of course, the frothed milk will be hot, but the overall drink temp will be significantly lower due to the low coffee temp. Moreover, 2-3 ice cubes will give the drink a velvety refreshing taste.

The large color display significantly improves overall usability and needs no comment.

The second thermoblock is also not superfluous. In addition to increasing temperature stability, it significantly reduces the duration of milk-based drinks preparation, which does not exceed a minute per cycle.

To be fair, the W10’s performance is inferior to other Giga models. In particular, the capacity of its water container, pulp container and drip tray is only 2.6 liters, 20 servings and half a liter, respectively. In addition, the W10 does not have a ‘c’ version with a connection to the water supply, and it supports ‘two servings at once’ feature only for black coffee programs.

For this model, the company recommends a load of up to 50 cycles per day and positions it as a ‘premium’ version with a wide range of programs for a small office.

X10 and W models

Jura X10/X10c

Like the W10, the X10 offers the maximum number of programs in Professional line. It also prepares Cold Brew using the Cold Extraction Process. Unlike the Giga models, the X10 has only one grinder, one hopper and one flow-through thermal block. As a result, preparing two cappuccinos takes ~ 1 min 50 sec. In addition, the series can prepare any two drinks at the same time.

The X10 platform without a water connection is similar to the Giga and includes a 5-liter water tank, 1.5-liter drip tray, and a 40-serving pulp container. But its bean hopper holds only 500 grams. However, the company offers an optional capacity expander that increases its capacity to 1 kg. In fact, the X10 without an electronic coffee grinder and a second thermoblock occupies an intermediate position between the premium Giga and budget-friendly series.

Jura W4, W8 and WE6

W4 is a compact version of X4 (3-liter water tank and grounds discard container capacity of 25 shots). It also has a separate rotary water supply handle for Americano.

W8 is an analogue of ‘home’ E8 EC with approximately one and a half times the capacity (3-liter water tank, 500-gram hopper and 25 shots pulp container).

Jura W8

Its functionality is also limited vs X10:

– no Cold Brew;

– only one drink per cycle;

– no milk temp adjustment and no separate setting for milk and foam volume (only max).

In fact, the W8 can be positioned as a ‘basic’ version of the milk super-automatic without additional features and settings. The company recommends usage intensity of up to 50 servings per day.

Jura WE6 is a cheaper version of Jura W4 without the ‘classic americano’ program (espresso + hot water) and with a smaller display.

Giga X8, X3 and X4

Jura Giga X8/X8c and Giga X3/X3c

Unlike the cheaper X3 with one grinder, the X8 has two grinders. In addition, the X8 is equipped with two bean hoppers with a capacity of 650 grams each. The X3 has only one hopper, but it holds up to 1 kg.

GIGA X8 vs X3

Both series offer ‘c’ versions with water connection (article with the letter ‘c’) and a 5-liter water tank. The pulp containers are designed for 40 servings, and the drip tray holds up to 1.5 liters. Like all Professional series except WE6, the trays and bins have full sensor and bean hopper sensor.

The company’s recommendations for loading them are up to 150 servings per day for the X3, and 200 for the X8.

Both series have two flow thermoblocks and can prepare two drinks at the same time. For reference, their performance reaches just over one and a half minutes for two cappuccinos. Unfortunately, they do not support the Cold Extraction Process and cannot prepare Cold Brew drinks.

Jura X4/X4c is an analog of X10/X10c without milk-based drinks. It makes only variations of black coffee, including espresso, coffee, americano, lungo, ristretto and more.

Conclusions

Current prices:

– Giga 10W ~ $ 4,830 / € 4,300 / £ 4,000;

– X10 ~ $ 4,000 / £ 3,300;

– Giga X8 ~ € 6,000 / £ 4,150;

– Giga X3 ~ € 4,390 / £ 2,220;

– X4 ~ € 2,850;

– W8 ~ $ 3,000 / € 2,335;

– W4 ~ € 1,440 – 1,800;

– WE6 ~ € 1,680.

In fact, the Professional series models cover the entire price segment from the budget-friendly WE6, which costs slightly more than € 1,500, to the luxurious premium Giga X8 costing more than € 5,000.

The new X10c has become a cheaper version of the Giga 10W without the second flow-through thermal block, the second grinder and the second hopper for beans. But the difference of more than $ 800 ($ 4,000 vs $ 4,830) seems sufficient compensation for a slight increase in the preparation duration of milk-based drinks, and the inability to use two coffee blends at the same time.

Otherwise, the models are almost identical. But most importantly, both coffee machines offer 35 programs that will satisfy coffee lovers with any exotic tastes.

Of course, their performance seems excessive for home use. But it can be relevant for a crowded party. In addition, the prices of the Professional series are quite proportionate to other Jura series. In fact, they can be positioned as more universal models, equally well suited for the office, party, public meeting, etc. Of course, the additional flow-through thermal block, coffee grinder and bean hopper increase the price, but their presence is determined by the coffee machine class, not its classification.
