The products of the German Steba company enjoys well-deserved popularity on the European market. Steba DF 200 Fryer is another novelty from this manufacturer. Its case is made in the traditional style.

The model power reaches 2200 W. The stainless steel bowl with non-stick coating can hold from 3.2 to 4.2 quarts of oil. This volume is sufficient for 2.2 lb of foods. But the manufacturer indicates an optimal weight of 1.8 lb.

The control uses simple and reliable mechanical dial.

Clockwise rotation increases the oil heating temperature. The green indicator goes out at the set temperature.

Kit contains three baskets. A large basket is designed for cooking large portions or fish.

Two small baskets provide simultaneous cooking the two dishes.

The plastic control unit with the heating element is inserted inside the container by special guides.

Its simple removal is very convenient for cleaning the container after cooking.


The window in the plastic lid is designed to visually control the frying process. The lid is equipped with a filter to protect from soot. A large number of silicone sealants are also intended for this purpose.

In general, this device is very functional, easy to assemble and disassemble.

Design

Of course, deep fryer Steba DF 200 is positioned as a household model, but its power and volume quite suitable for a small cafe. Moreover, the device perfectly copes with frying the vegetables, fish, meat, poultry, etc.

Of course, the container for the oil is washed in the dishwasher. Baskets are washed manually with a brush.

The cold zone under the heating element protects the bottom of the container from burning food pieces, batter and breadcrumbs.

The instruction contains recommendations for filtering the oil for its re-use as a frying oil. Its quality remains high for 5-10 cycles in the case of cooking meat and fish, but requires careful filtration.

Testing confirmed the declared power of 2200 W. Testing was carried out for cooking the French fries, shrimp, squid, chicken wings and cauliflower.

Cooking the French fries lasted 8 minutes at a temperature of 160 degrees. Shrimp and squid in batter were fried for about 7 minutes at a temperature of 170 degrees. This process was accompanied by difficulties due to the sticking of foods to the grate of the basket. Upturning large pieces is almost impossible in case of cooking them in batter. But this problem is effectively solved with the help of breading. Cooking the chicken wings lasted about 13 minutes at a temperature of 150 degrees. Cauliflower was fried for 6 minutes at a temperature of 170 degrees.


All the results were great. The dishes corresponded to the most refined taste and were cooked very quickly.

Unfortunately, the window in the lid was inefficient due to condensation.

Main advantages and disadvantages

Pros:

– very simple control with a single regulator;

– smooth adjustment of cooking temperature;

– large volume of container;

– quick cooking due to high power;

– simultaneous cooking the two dishes using two small baskets;

– simple maintenance due to convenient design.

Cons:

– visual control is limited due to condensation on the lid window;

– cooking in batter requires breading because of the sticking the food to the grate.
