New Jura W8 Professional Dark Inox vs WE8 coffee machine Review

Jura W8 Professional

Jura W8 Professional

Jura coffee machines are developed by the Swiss company Jura Elektroapparate AG, which has been specializing in the premium home appliance segment since 1931. Jura produces coffee machines through Swiss original equipment manufacturer (OEM) Eugster Frismag AG, which also produces models under the Saeco, Philips, Gaggia, Bosch, Nivona and Melitta brands.

Сompany uses a fairly simple and convenient naming system for its models, changing only the letter article number in the series, which corresponds to the year of development. For example, in 2020, the E6 EB replaced the previous E6 EA. In turn, it was replaced by improved E6 EC.

W8 series has been the long-time leader in sales of professional Jura coffee machines. Its new 2025 version is called the Jura W8 Dark Inox EA (15650). It has become the most affordable commercial model from this renowned brand.

Of course, the maximum daily load is one of the main criteria for professional models. This, in turn, depends on the capacity of the containers.

Jura W8 has:

– 3l water container (lockable with an included Allen key). Unfortunately, a water connection option is not available;

– 500g bean hopper with a locking option;

– 25-serving waste compartment;

– 1l drip tray with a full sensor.

Jura recommends a daily load of ~50 servings, but the coffee machine is quite capable of making up to 100 shots.

Technically, the company still produces the cheaper WE6 version, but it’s no longer available in all markets and offers very limited functionality. In contrast, the W8 makes all basic recipes ‘in one touch,’ including espresso, lungo, Americano (espresso + hot water), cappuccino (coffee + milk on top), and several original recipes.

Main improvements

The new model offers a more intuitive interface, similar to the ‘Jura Cockpit’ in flagships. This software interface displays all information on the touchscreen, including service level, water filter status, etc.

Unlike the WE8 with settings in the main menu, access to adjustments is provided via a side button next to the program, which is much more convenient.

Jura W8 Display

The screen displays four drink icons. In total, the coffee machine displays three ‘desktops’, which are scrolled using the lower right button. Pressing and holding the corresponding side button opens a menu for moving drinks between the desktops and for adjusting the recipe. The factory and one-time settings can be disabled in the main menu, which can be opened by pressing and holding the lower right button.

The Coffee Eye cup detection system is second bonus. Previous models, with dispensers for black coffee in the center and milk-based drinks on the right, are not protected from confusion. For example, if you activate the Cappuccino program and the cup is mistakenly placed under the central dispenser, the coffee machine will pour the drink through the right dispenser into the drip tray.

The Coffee Eye sensor eliminates this risk by monitoring the cup’s correct placement. In this case, the coffee machine will alert you on the display and block dispensing until the cup is installed correctly.

The new Professional Aroma Grinder 2 coffee grinder with reverse, 7 grind settings and a convenient adjustment knob is another bonus. In fact, the coffee grinder reverses after each grind, clearing the burrs of bean debris. The reverse eliminates the limitation of coffee grinders in all coffee machines, which allows grind adjustment only during operation. This is due to the risk of avoiding damaging the burrs with beans trapped between them.

Programs

– Espresso (P.E.P. or Pulse Extraction Process for a richer flavor) – default 45 ml / 15-80 ml adjustment.

Jura PEP technology

For reference, ~ 5-7 ml of water remains in the coffee tablet, so the coffee in your cup will be slightly less. Double-clicking activates the brewing of two espressos, using two separate grinds and two water flushes;

– Coffee (without P.E.P.) – 100ml / 25-240 ml;

– Americano (classic recipe – espresso + hot water on top, no P.E.P.) – 60 ml espresso + 40 ml hot water / 25-240 ml espresso + 0-240 ml water (max 480 ml);

– Lungo – 120 ml espresso + 100 ml water / 25-240 ml espresso + 0-240 ml water;

– Specialty coffee – 200 ml / 25 – 240 ml.

Unlike the ‘Coffee’ program, coffee is poured from the right milk dispenser with a maximum mug height of 15 cm. This program uses a more sophisticated water pump mode with smooth pressure profiling, which increases at the first stage and then decreases. As a result, according to the developer, larger portions have a more velvety flavor.

Extra Shot is an option for brewing a richer, stronger coffee. This is achieved by adding an additional 30 ml of espresso or by double extraction. Jura makes milk-based Extra Shot drinks from two full espressos. It enhances the coffee dominant and can be activated to prepare cappuccino, latte macchiato and flat white. The submenu with the Extra Shot modifier is accessed via the lower-left button.

However, the model also offers programming of this mode through long-term recipe settings. In this case, the coffee machine divides the coffee component into two sequential preparations, producing a milk-based drink based on a double espresso.

Milk-based programs

Jura W8 Recipes

– Cappuccino (milk foam + coffee on top) – 14 seconds of milk foam + 60 ml of coffee without P.E.P. / foam for up to 45 seconds (~ 400 ml) + 25-240 ml of coffee.

For reference, Jura coffee machines regulate the amount of milk foam by adjusting the frothing time. Depending on the milk fat content, the ratio is 8-10 ml per 1 second of frothing;

– Latte Macchiato – 28 seconds of foam, 10-second pause, 45 ml of coffee without P.E.P./milk foam up to 45 seconds (~400 ml), 0-60-second pause, 25-240 ml of coffee.

Basically, the algorithm is similar to Cappuccino, but with an adjustable pause between the milk foam and the coffee;

– Flat White (classic cappuccino – coffee without P.E.P. + milk foam on top) – 60 ml of coffee + 14 seconds of milk foam (~100-120 ml) / 25-240 ml of coffee + 1-45 seconds of foam;

– Cortado (espresso with P.E.P. + little milk foam on top) – 25 ml espresso + 5 seconds of milk foam / 15-80 ml espresso + 1-45 seconds of foam.

Essentially, this is a second version of the classic cappuccino, based on a richer espresso with P.E.P.;

– Macchiato: 5 seconds foam + 25 ml espresso / 1-45 seconds foam + 15-80 ml espresso;

– Milk foam: 22 seconds / 1-45 seconds;

– Hot water: 220 ml / 25-300 ml.

Given the popularity of Extra Shot, it’s possible many consumers will enthusiastically welcome the expansion of this modifier to Americano and Lungo recipes.
