Filtration system in a deep fryer

Modern fryers are technically complex multifunctional devices that include several systems. The fryer filtration system is one of them. The efficiency and usability of model significantly depend on filtration due to the need for continuous quality control of vegetable oil for its timely replacement. Therefore, the choice of the optimum deep fryer depends on the efficiency of its filtration system.

Anti-odor filter

This filter is located in a special recess on the top lid. It reduces the spread of odor hot oil and fried food.

These filters are replaceable or stationary.

Replaceable anti-odor cartridges are based on charcoal that very effectively absorbs smells. The market offers a wide range of such filters.

These cartridges are replaced regularly. They have quite a long service life and low cost that does not exceed $ 20. Therefore, they little effect on the overall efficiency of model.

Stationary filter is easy cleared and does not require of regular replacement.

The absorption efficiency of the oily vapors is about the same for both types of filters.

Filters are also divided into single-layer and multilayer.

Single-layer filters are made of metal or charcoal.

Fryer charcoal filter is more efficient, but has a shorter life. It has calculated for frying approximately during 10 hours. Then, this filter is replaced on new.

Metal filter is not replaceable. But it’s less effective.

Multilayer filters are made from a combination of several materials. Today, companies offer carbon-synthetic, carbon-metallic, carbon-metal-synthetic, etc filters.

Reusable carbon filters are the most popular due to the highly efficient absorption of odors at high temperatures. It’s achieved by the properties of carbon. In addition, such filter relatively cheap and easy to clean.

Oil filters

Oil filters are usually not included in the standard fryer kit and are sold separately.

Filters are also divided into replaceable and reusable.

Oil filters are designed for filtration oil after frying. Filter removes the remains breading, the pieces of food and other impurities from oil. Otherwise, they negatively affect the flavor and quality of dishes when re-using oil.

Modern models automatically filter oil. The oil enters the filter for cleaning only after cooling. This filter is made from filter paper or foam rubber. Paper filter is easily inserted into conical oil filter holder.

Of course, the market also offers other solutions. For example, the algorithm of the oil filtration using Pod is shown in the video at the end.

Reusable filters are washed in hot water and dried.

Modern oil filters provide the use of vegetable oil during 10-15 cycles. Some consumers have a negative opinion about reusing the vegetable oil for frying. The solution in this case is individually. Of course, the cooking cost significantly increases without its reuse.

Models with electronic control often have a oil change indicator that is usually located on the top panel.

Of course, this feature is relevant only for single-layer and multi-layer cartridges.

Draining system

Modern models of upper price segment have often the draining system of vegetable oil through the opening at the bottom of device. The oil merges into any convenient container.

This system has a filter for cleaning the oil from the crumbs that is a fine-mesh. This filter does not require replacement.

Some fryers have a special container for the drained oil. These are special plastic boxes that are fixed to the bottom of housing and have drain hole with hermetic lid.

Oil tank is usually placed in the refrigerator before next use.

Some models without drainage system also have containers for oil. In this case, oil is poured through pouring spout manually in any suitable container.
